VOLUMINOUS SKIRTS MIDI & MAXI FULL SKIRTS

TREND ALERT - Voluminous midi and maxi skirts, add a modern twist to a classic silhouette this coming Spring / Summer. The voluminous ladylike silhouette is here to stay.  The full skirt, which comes in different volumes, formal silhouette and various lengths. If you need more drama in your outfit without going avant-garde, this skirt is the solution.

What makes a skirt a midi is length. It can be flared or fitted it really doesn’t matter; length is truly the determining factor. A midi skirt is one that runs below the knee to mid-calf. It is usually made with a higher waist line and compliments almost all body types and that is why it is such a popular trend.  Max skirts obviously go all the way to the floor.

FULL MIDI SKIRTS are massive this season, urging us all to channel our fairy-tale-meets-Grace-Kelly persona. Whether in toned down hues or bold neon shades, prints or patterns these full shapes make us all look like retro dolls in a very modern sophisticated way.

If you have not channelled a voluminous, calf-grazing skirt before, this summer you have no more excuses to postpone such a fashion moment. The skirt style feels utterly formal, but it is actually easier to wear than you might think.  It's easy to assume that the full midi is strictly for evenings, but good old street style proves that to be very wrong.
here are my tips on wearing the Voluminous skirt:

Pair with a simple T-shirt for day if it's a skirt (probably our favourite look) and don't be afraid to try out flats - it really does work, even if you're on the shorter side.

While you can wear almost anything with it, we've seen enough of the voluminous skirt and cropped top pairing that we consider it the perfect combination.

Something fitted will help tone down the volume of your silhouette. It will also emphasize your waist or create one if you are lacking in that department.

This is one trend that also knows no seasonal barriers. In darker colours and heavier fabrics like denim and leather, it's perfect for chilly weather too. Just add a cosy knit, scarf and a pair of heeled boots.

Fashion Trend For Spring Summer FLORAL PRINTS

Summer is offically here and the floral trend is out in full force.  Floral prints may not be groundbreaking, but they will forever be considered the embodiment of spring/summer. Around this time of the year, you can always count on a full floral fantasy to assure a smooth transition between seasons and this spring is no different.

Fashion’s ongoing love affair with floral prints continues for Spring/summer 2014 with many of the designers offering up their take on the iconic pattern. So be prepared to embrace your inner lady with floral print dresses, swimsuits, shoes, and even sunglasses

Romantic and edgy, yes. Floaty, girly-girl-innocence no. The floral trend has moved into all-new realms of sultry, smoldering style, with floral's coming in soft pastel colours and vibrant hues.

Pick one colour of the floral pattern you want to wear, and use this as your base. It might be a singlet or coloured jeans – remember, a little floral goes a long way.

It takes a very sharp eye to spot two floral designs that will work together without appearing like a technicolour nightmare. Instead, mix one statement floral piece with a block colour. Same goes for other patterns such as stripes and checks – this can work, but proceed with caution.

Details like ruffles, bows and lace can clash with floral go from chic to cutesy very quick. If you think it would look cute on a ten-year-old, leave it on the rack.

Watercolour, mirror-print, monochromatic and abstract florals are a sophisticated take on this trend. Teamed with a simple cami and a blazer it can even pass at the office.

If you’re not ready to jump into the floral trend, then play it safe with accessories. Try a simple flower in your hair, a wreath (if you want to make a statement) a handbag, or a pretty piece of jewellery. A brightly coloured floral silk scarf is also a good wardrobe staple.

It’s all in the details - A new take on florals this season is to toughen them up. Monochrome prints, black leather and pearls create a perfect take on this classic trend.

BRINGING BACK THE DENIM SKIRT

As if we couldn't get enough denim in our lives, the denim skirt has made it’s way back from the 90’s in full force! This might be a flashback to your childhood, but don’t let that scare you from giving the denim skirt a second chance.   It’s interesting how an item that was once mainstream, but fell out of fashion, can come back years later.

When styled the right way, a denim skirt can look effortlessly chic and put-together.  As of matter of fact, I’m loving the updated silhouette on today’s denim skirt, and it really is one of those trend you can wear in the colder months as well.  The current skirts come in a variety of silhouettes—fit and flared, slim and straight, and the list goes on—so it’s important to find one that perfectly flatters your shape.

While denim shorts are still very much in, I'm so pleased to see the denim skirt return to the mix. The rules of pairing with a denim skirt are very much the same for that of denim shorts, after all, both items go with just about anything.

Pare down the toughness of a denim skirt by teaming it with a feminine blouse with subtle lace detailing.

A denim skirt designed in a twirly skater cut style is fresh, feminine and summer-appropriate. Pair it with a tucked in white tee and then layer it up with a denim jacket in a darker blue.
Midi skirts are all the rage this year. Partner a denim midi full skirt with a striped cropped top, sneakers and a pair of statement round sunglasses for a look that is contemporary.
Don’t limit yourself to one denim piece when you can chuck on a denim hat to flaunt your love for all-things denim.
Update your denim look by pairing it with current styles like denim on denim, a cropped sweater or oversized clutch . The possibilities are endless when it comes to something this versatile.   Like your growing supply of jeans, chances are you’ll want the denim skirt in every shade—even with distressed details.
